Speaking of Artie, don't be disappointed in his article regarding the Isles lack of activity during the upcoming trade deadline. You had to expect it. There is no need to try to make deals now with so few games remaining and the idea of making the playoffs simply a wish you make on a birthday cake.

The idea of making the playoffs simply a wish you make on a birthday cake?!?!?

WTF?!!?

Aren't they two points out of 8th?!?!?

Nit only that but something else that makes this funny is the dee Karl logic of if they aren't going to make the playoffs they shouldn't make deals? All the more reason to make trades you half wit. What are they going to sign all of these players that couldn't make the eight seed in a not so competitive east? Makes zero sense except to garf and dee. They have it all figured out.

Staple's "news" story has to be the laziest piece I've read. Not a single bit of attribution anywhere. No "according to...," no "so-and-so said...." I know it's not the best beat in the world, but pick the phone up and get a quote or at least a "no comment" if you're going to bother writing a story. Or just put the collection of guesses in the "Isles Files" blog section rather than passing it off as actual news.

Unreal only in Isles land would they stand pat. The playoffs are not a big deal then fine sell off the pieces you have to playoff teams or if making playoffs is important then add pieces but please do not stand pat.

Staple fits in perfectly in Wang's world.

From the Blackhawks blog

As I reported here, the Hawks have been scouting the Islanders and talking to them about "all-terrain" winger Matt Martin. Well, I am hearing this morning that the parameters of the deal have expanded. The Hawks maybe offering an "elite" prospect as part of a package that could include some combination of Martin, Mark Streit and/or Brad Boyes.

Without sharing the name of the top prospect, let me just say, it's a little bit of a surprise—and underscores what I heard in conjunction with this. The Hawks want to get their now three years anemic power play fixed—hence Streit and Boyes.

Evidently, the Hawks are serious about making some improvements. But the proof is in the doing. Talk is cheap.

I love it we have all these kids coming and we are not going to make room for them. Let us risk have guys walk again like PA for nothing.

I hate the idea of trading Martin but you cannot rule it out without hearing the return. I have no problem moving Streit and Boyes.

He has another Isles chat on Thursday, I think all he's doing is building a little outrage to get more people on board.

Just been a steady decline on Newsday. Strang was better than Staple; Logan was better than Strang. That article probably took as long to write as our comments yesterday making about the same guesses at what Snow would do at the deadline.

He is just another shill for the team. He wants to be the players friend instead of writing real pieces. I would love for Larry Brooks to cover this team. He might be a douchebag hack but he would call out snow and wang all the time and it would be hilarious

It's one of the things I mentioned as a neagative for the the Isles...no media/public accountability... there is no real media coverage and therefore no media pressure for this team.

Until they get to Brooklyn. Once there, they will get actual beat writers from all the local papers. At that point you would think that the soft ball stuff will end.

Exactly....give the Isles the type of coverage the Jets get

I think this team is in bunker mode at this point. It's 2015 or bust. They're willing to frustrate everyone to no end as long as they can make it to that date. If the Isles were to spend a little more money right now, the only entities that really stand to profit are Nassau and SMG.

So for that reason, talk of players for prospects/picks seems very possible. It sure would put our cap situation in the spotlight as we'd be below the minimum.

Read the blog, seems interesting but do not think it has any legs for that big of a deal to take place. Also with Blackhawks having money tied up with star players, don't see why they would trade a super prospect w/o getting something better than rentals.
Would like to know who's the possible return.

At that point the team will actually stand to make a profit if they're successful so winning will mean something again.

I don't care if there is any rumors about trades. I will believe it when I see it!

Anders Lee, Brock Nelson, Ryan Strome, Reinhart and Mayfield, how the heck would we fit them in the lineup next year?

I feel the same way and I also wonder how we are going to fit these guys in. Reinhart and Mayfield may be a long shot to make the team but still. Standing pat is a joke. This is not a Cup team or close where you are worried about messing with the chemistry. You either add or sell. It's not that hard.

You don't. Only one of these guys has pro (AHL) experience. If they make the team because they earned it, great. If they need to spend some time in the bridge, well that's fine too. Lee won't be an issue either way unless he signs.
